Lightning struck Spring Hill School in 1948
Up to this time there was a dome ventilator on top of the school roof.

The roof was badly damaged and needed a lot of repair. After this the school had a small ventilator, but now no longer has a dome.

Mr. Spencer, the head teacher, wrote in the school logbook:
1948
| June 18th | “School dome struck by lightening 2.40pm during a severe thunderstorm. Damage to ceiling, no injuries, no panic. The children's behaviour deserves special commendation." |
