The school garden was in the top yard.

During the First and Second World Wars the garden was used to grow food which was in short supply.  In 1940 everyone was encouraged to grow food if they could.  The government told everyone to 'Dig for Victory'.

April 28th “...cottage gardening …4 lessons each week…8 boys to each lesson... Various vegetables will be cultivated."

April 19th "...spent the afternoon on the cottage garden site, regarding school gardening, practical and theoretical, and discussed the programme we intend to carry out for the 'Dig for Victory' campaign."
